Retrospektive Kunstraum Bad Honnef (Restrospective)

Albert Gehret has engaged intensively with photography since the 1990s—initially working with analogue processes in his own black-and-white darkroom, and later increasingly with digital techniques. Through the photographic lens, he analyses and transforms what he perceives in order to question and redefine its presumed claim to truth. He uses photographic means while moving beyond the boundaries of the documentary. By layering different moments in time and perspectives, he creates works that open up new narratives and call our view of what we see into question. What initially appears to be a conventional photograph reveals itself as a constructed pictorial world that deliberately employs visual intervention as an artistic means—and, in doing so, allows a deeper truth to emerge.
His series include multi-time images, multi-motif montages and multiple perspectives—artistic methods that depict dimensions which cannot be captured in a single photograph. Alongside these conceptual works, this exhibition marks the first time Albert Gehret has also presented classical and experimental photographs.
Albert Gehret draws on a photographic archive of more than 150,000 images—raw material that forms the basis of his multilayered pictorial worlds. He has been a member of BBK Bonn Rhein-Sieg since 2024 and is now opening his practice to a wider public.
