Description
Are we looking at a scene, or are we watching someone else see it?
Every gaze has its own point of view. We can try to see things from another person’s perspective, but we can never entirely leave our own behind. Even so, we bring different views together to form a shared understanding of reality.
In JapanerTreppe, different viewpoints meet. They do not quite align, yet they form a plausible whole.
Here, the act of observing itself becomes the subject of observation. Anyone looking at the image continues this sequence – and becomes part of what they are trying to understand.
