Description

RippenWärme connects different spaces and scales through a shared structure. The regular ribs of a radiator initially continue in its shadow. Below, lines, surfaces and textures from another place take up this rhythm, guiding the eye across the actual break between the images.
At the same time, the scale changes almost unnoticed: the proximity of an interior develops into an expansive pictorial space in which a human figure becomes a measure of size. RippenWärme uses structural correspondences to encourage our perception to connect what is separate. The transition emerges where enough properties correspond for the differences to initially recede from view.

When taking photographs, I like to choose angles and frames in which subjects seem to lose their usual function.

The radiator in the gallery space becomes rhythm, rib, shadow and edge.

Viewed from above, C-Mine in Genk becomes surface, boundary, scale and order.

In the montage, two different realities collide. They do not form a shared space, but rather a new pictorial reality. The separation recedes into the background because the viewer recognises a shared order.

It is precisely there that rupture and transition lie.
