Description
Two photographs taken at the Louvre in Paris are combined to form what appears to be a single coherent space. The lower part of the image shows the base of an accessibility lift designed as a column moving up and down, surrounded by a spiral staircase. Above it, the cylindrical roof of another area of the museum seems to continue the architecture.
The perspective lines of the two photographs correspond so closely that our perception connects the separate architectural structures into a plausible whole. As the roof narrows in perspective, it appears to form a downward-pointing tip aligned with the column. SäulenDach explores how perspective and pattern recognition can transform separate realities into a space that appears photographically convincing, yet has never actually existed.
